ENERGY EFFICIENCY BUILDING LEGISLATION

Posted on 08/10/2023

In 2014, Councilmember Blumenfield authored a motion asking City Departments to convene a stakeholder process to develop a program that would improve the energy and water efficiency of existing buildings which are the largest users of energy and water. As a result of these stakeholder conversations, the City kicked off a program which became known as the Existing Building Energy and Water Efficiency (EBEWE) Program, the most comprehensive energy and water efficiency law in the US with the purpose of reducing energy and water consumption in existing buildings. Learn more about EBEWE  and its benchmark goals and audits by clicking here.
