In response to developers chopping down trees, Blumenfield spearheaded a tree replacement initiative that would require developers to replace trees they cut down on a 2:1 basis and provide three years of watering. In May 2019, the City Council adopted Blumenfield's Tree Replacement Guarantee Fee to provide development and residential projects an additional permit option to satisfy the City's Tree replacement policy. The alternative compliance option allows developers to pay a fee if the site cannot feasibly accommodate a required tree.
