BLUMENFIELD WELCOMES FORMER CONTROLLER RON GALPERIN AS SPECIAL ADVISOR

LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, Councilmember Bob Blumenfield announced that he has welcomed former City Controller Ron Galperin to serve as Special Advisor. Galperin will help Team Blumenfield with policy and oversight on budget and other key issue areas.

“At this time of transition at City Hall, we must continue to guide our city through unprecedented challenges and Ron will be using his experience as Controller to help make the West Valley and all our City even better,” said Blumenfield. “There are few people who blend passion, institutional prowess and a strong record of transparency and accountability better than Ron and it’s wonderful to welcome him to Team Blumenfield.”

This week, Blumenfield was appointed chair of the City Council’s Budget and Finance Committee and Galperin will advise him in this new role. During their time together as elected leaders, Blumenfield and Galperin worked on numerous projects including audits on quality of life services such as sidewalk and tree maintenance, and they successfully took on utility companies to ensure that they pay their fair share for street damage costs. Both are champions of innovation and accountability, and Galperin’s deep understanding of the City’s finances, revenues and expenses, will be helpful as the City prepares to weather any upcoming financial storms.

Galperin served as City Controller from 2013 to 2022 where he was the watchdog for taxpayers at City Hall. During his time as Controller, he launched Control Panel L.A., the City’s first open data portal featuring details on the goods and services Los Angeles buys, along with information on assets and liabilities, employee compensation, performance metrics, and much more. Under Galperin’s leadership, the Controller’s office has issued numerous financial and performance audits focused on improving the efficiency and accountability of City government — and on delivering quality neighborhood services.

Prior to his election, Galperin built a reputation outside City Hall as a leading voice for government reform. He is the first Neighborhood Councilmember elected to citywide office in Los Angeles and has more than 20 years of experience as an attorney and small business owner.
