COUNCILMEMBER BOB BLUMENFIELD UNVEILS NEW,

UNIQUE LARGE-SCALE SOLAR PROJECT IN THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY

WOODLAND HILLS, CA – Taking another bold step to meet the City’s reduction on green-house gas emissions and fossil fuels, Councilmember Bob Blumenfield hosted the activation of a large-scale solar project at Gelb Enterprises in Woodland Hills. Blumenfield has long been an advocate for more green energy investment in the West Valley and this installation, led by the Gelb Group and PCS Energy, is one of the largest in his district.

“As a city, we must continue to take large steps toward combating climate change and bringing these sorts of huge solar installations to the West Valley, where sun and heat is plentiful, is key,” said Blumenfield. “I’m grateful to partners like Mr. Gelb and PCS Energy and hopefully this project helps demonstrate that unique projects such as this massive in-basin 500 kilowatt roof-top solar system can mainstream on top of every building and parking garage throughout Los Angeles.”

“It is incumbent upon all of us to do our part towards shifting our dependency away from fossil fuel. Government cannot do this alone. I applaud Councilman Blumenfield and the entire City for taking bold action with goals and timelines to get there, but it will take businesses and residents to do their part,” said Rickey Gelb, President, Gelb Enterprises.

“As a local business, I am proud of the work that PCS Energy has done in this space. While this project is certainly unique, it only adds to the over 200 commercial rooftop solar projects we have activated throughout Los Angeles. If we are to meet the City’s timelines, we have much more work to do”, said Joseph Pekarovic, Principal, PCS Energy.

On September 1, 2021, the Los Angeles City Council voted to transition to 100 percent clean energy by 2035. This plan, known as LA100, demonstrates that the city's goal of reaching 100 percent renewable electricity is achievable 10 years earlier than originally planned. Located at the top of the Gelb Group’s parking garage at 6200 Canoga Ave, this project alone is equivalent to saving 59,158 gallons of gasoline consumed or 1,304,994 miles driven by a passenger vehicle, and enough to power 102 homes for electricity for a year.
